Khorasan Steel Complex has put in place the following measures in order to minimize job-related accidents and improve the safety and health level of its employees

Building a safety culture through:

Holding continuous training courses in safety, health and environment for KSCC and contractor workers, and monitoring these courses monthly both in terms of severity rate (SR) and frequency rate (FR) with the determination of safety indicators,
compiling and reviewing safety, health and environment manuals (amounting to 30 instructions) on a weekly basis in the presence of the chief executive officer, deputies, and top chart managers from VIP areas, regular patrolling of the areas, paying targeted bonuses in various HSE payrolls, auditing areas in personnel’s perspective,
recognition of distinguished safety workers on a monthly basis and paying them safety bonuses to them and their families in order to institutionalize safety culture among personnel and their families, inserting their names in Tanin Monthly,
Holding emergency reaction maneuvers as per a specified scenario during the year,
Compiling safety, health and environment procedures for contractor workers
Holding periodical medical examinations for the workers of the company and contractors with a focus on harmful agents evaluated in the working environment,
Providing the emergency department with two ambulances and starting up of the a dentistry and general medical center for rendering services to the company and contractor workers


Due to the consumption of scraps in the steel making process (scrap recycling), work in Khorasan Steel Company is closely linked to the environment by nature. This manufacturing unit has always been active in reducing water, air and soil pollution and minimizing the consumption of raw materials and energy with the following major activities in this regard:
establishment of the ISO 14001-2004 environment management system, taking preliminary measures required for the deployment of this system such as forming committees, and executing the required projects for the deployment of ISO 14001-2004, training the employees of the company and contractors in various organizational levels,
providing manuals, forms, and other documentation required for the deployment of environment management system, training internal auditors and performing internal audits prior to independent third-party audits, holding management review meetings, performing effective engineering repairs on the equipment, including the reduction of the distance between fix and mobile ducts on electric arc furnaces on a weekly basis and the same on PM and DRI furnaces on an annual basis, as well as the repair and maintenance of the deduster unit, replacement of the defective filter bags and FTP system, Using the effluent stream in the irrigation of the greenery of WTP and treatment of industrial wastewater in that unit, Treatment of human wastewater in the biological wastewater facilities and the use of its output in the irrigation of the greenery. Construction of four underground tanks with the approximate volume of 800 cubic meters for storing the effluent outputs of the industrial treatment facilities.
Considering treatment facilities from the beginning of the design and in the construction period, including:
Direct reduction plant clarifiers
Lagoons in the casting and rolling units
Deduster units in various direct reduction plant areas (9 deduster units)
12 hectares designed greenery
Formation of energy committee with regular meetings and conduction of various projects for minimizing the energy and raw materials consumption
Taking initial environment actions for the installation of online environment protection systems on chimneys
Effective cooperation with the provincial and urban environment organizations
Performing hot charge operations for over 50 percent of the billets exiting the casting unit
Designing the layout of waste mater depots so that industrial and healthcare waste is stored separately from the beginning and special waste maters are segregated and sorted
Hygienic disposition and elimination of hospital waste in the town’s hospital garbage burners
Improvement operations made inside the complex
Performing periodical measurements of emissions from the chimneys and solutions from treating facilities and four corner emission measurement operations and comparing them with the clean air standards


Khorasan Steel Complex is surrounded by a green belt of trees with the area of 125 hectares. This has resulted in a fine weather around the complex and the reduction of the roughness seen in the industrial environments. It also reduces the pollutants emitted to the adjacent settlements given the direction of the wind. Greeneries create a favorable atmosphere by reducing noise and air pollution, temperature, and soil erosion, and thus play a vital role in the immunity and betterment of the people’s lives.
The trees planted in the greenery, include cedars, mulberries, pines, ashes, plane trees, judas trees, catalpas, bitter olive and almond selected on the basis of climatic conditions of the region.
At present, a greenery project is underway around the production plants.
It is noteworthy so far about half of the greenery is watered through a drip-irrigation system which is to be spread to the entire greenery in the future.
